VTC Applied Learning - About VTC ApL

Applied Learning (ApL) courses are elective subjects within the senior secondary curriculum. ApL offers studies with a dual emphasis on practice and theory linked to broad professional and vocational fields, providing a holistic learning experience to the students.

Why VTC ApL?Vocational Training Council (VTC), being the largest vocational and professional education and training provider in Hong Kong, provides valuable credentials for some 200,000 students each year through a full range of pre-employment and in-service programmes with internationally recognised qualifications.

To support the Government's initiative in diversifying the senior secondary curriculum, VTC has been offering Applied Learning (ApL) courses since 2003/04. As the leading provider of ApL courses, VTC has built a strong foundation and reputation, attracting a significant number of students. The courses undergo regular review and updates, ensuring a robust quality assurance system.

Education Pathways & Qualification Recognitions

Students will obtain a Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3 Certificate in addition to Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) qualification upon successful completion of their applied learning courses. Students can choose to start their careers or further their studies.

VTC's education progression ladder provides post-secondary programmes, including bachelor's degree and higher diploma programmes, for ApL graduates to further develop their interests and potential in different study areas. Furthermore, students who meet the exemption criteria of the related VTC programme are eligible for module exemption(s).

The ApL course graduate’s performance will be reported on the certificate of HKDSE.
